![]() Equal parts laugh-out-loud storytelling, candid reflection, and wanderlust-inspiring travel tales, What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding is a compelling debut that will have readers rushing to renew their passports. Kristin introduces readers to the Israeli bartenders, Finnish poker players, sexy Bedouins, and Argentinean priests who helped her transform into "Kristin-Adjacent" on the road–a slower, softer, and, yes, sluttier version of herself at home. In addition to falling madly in love with the planet, Kristin fell for many attractive locals, men who could provide the emotional connection she wanted without costing her the freedom she desperately needed. Not ready to settle down and in need of an escape from her fast-paced job as a sitcom writer, Kristin instead traveled the world, often alone, for several weeks each year. Kristin Newman spent much of her twenties and thirties buying dresses to wear to her friends' weddings and baby showers. The Bear and the Nightingale Summary It is a tale infused with Russian mythology captured brilliantly with great writing. ![]() A book that I read and fell in love with instantly was The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. ![]() ![]() ![]() She is only 20, and her commentary made it feel like it was normal car accident death but the lack of reason makes me wonder if there was foul play, especially if her uncle knew they had what he wanted. Two things that bothered me but I’m thinking probably shouldn’t have were 1. This is a typical urban fantasy, where there are some aspects of the story that are kind of hand waved or set so the plot can move forward to keep things simple. The relationship between her and the demon is quirky yet terrifying. I look forward to watching her character arc grow over the coming books. There is no instant badass in this story, thank goodness. It was so easy to be engulfed into her story while we follower journey in navigating a world she never thought she’d be apart of.
